Business-savvy moms launch local
Northwest Baby
November, 2007
Northwest Enterprising Moms is an organization created
by and for moms to mentor and network mom-owned businesses. NWEMs founders
have created an organization where mother-owned businesses can increase
awareness and profitability for their company through events, a community
website, business forums, and continuing education opportunities. NWEM
will offer a dynamic, unique, and constantly evolving program for members—all
mothers who own at least 51percent of a business.
“Northwest Enterprising
Moms is tapping into what is becoming a national trend among the mothers
across the United States who are looking to achieve personal business
success all while balancing a healthy family life. We have already received
a tremendous response from both local mother owned businesses and outside
the northwest,” said Kelly Sharples, co-founder and President of NWEM.
“I believe we all have knowledge that, in some way, can help another
mom in business and by doing so help ourselves. Building the best environment
to share that knowledge is the next important step,” said Heather Correa.
“Having a family in today’s fast-paced society is hard. Building your
own business while maintaining a balanced family life is even harder.
But NWEM’s goal is to share resources within the growing community of
mom-owned business owners and to support each other in these exciting
and difficult endeavors. I am so excited to be a part of it and look
forward to seeing it grow both locally and nationally,” said Colleen
Butler.
In addition to supporting current mother-owned and operated
businesses, NWEM plans to offer an annual scholarship program for mothers
who need assistance growing their business idea into a reality.
